Initial Coaching Session
(General outline of what to expect)

Coaching Session Goma Congo

Timothy C. Geoffrion, Ph.D.
©2008, For Client Use Only

The following format was used by coaching clients in the Democratic Republic of Congo during 2008. It gives a general idea of what is involved.Outline of initial session:
• Prayer
• Explanation of “spiritual life coaching”
• Discussion of what makes someone truly ready for coaching.
• Design and crafting of the coach-client relationship based on what would work best for the individual.
• Completion of a satisfaction survey to set agenda for initial coaching
• Planning for future sessionsPrayerWhat exactly is spiritual life coaching?

• A life coach helps clients to gain clarity about their own dreams and vision for their life, and provides tools to help you to pursue your dreams and vision more effectively.
• Your coach sees you as the expert on your life. The coach believes you are creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to listen carefully to what’s important to you (values, goals, vision, priorities), and then by help you to gain greater clarity and to focus your attention and energy better.
• In coaching, as the client, you set the agenda, identify the vision, and create the solutions. You will draw on your own resources, within yourself, in God, and in those around you.
• As a Christian, spiritual life-coach, Tim brings spiritual resources to the coaching-client relationship. Tim will help you as you seek to discern God’s leading in your life. He will be there to help you to go deeper in your relationship with God. Tim will also be there to help you better fulfill your God-given purpose in life. Coaching-readiness Readiness for coaching is essential for success.

• Criteria for readiness:
1. Are you motivated to grow spiritually and to fulfill your purpose in life more fully and effectively?
2. Are you willing to make changes in your life in order to grow?
3. Do you sense a calling or inner prompting to make changes?
4. Who else will be affected by changes you may make? Are you willing for others to be affected?
5. Are you willing to put in the time needed to do the action steps you create and to prepare for each session ahead of time?
6. Are you willing to commit yourself to being in a coaching relationship with your spiritual life coach for the next six (6) months?
