In the war-torn, grief stricken country of Congo, 5.4 million people have died over the past 15 years. Many individuals are struggling now just to survive. The churches are desperately trying to cope with refugees and unprecedented needs. There, and throughout Africa, pastors often feel overwhelmed. Many are in great need of training in leadership and spiritual revitalization.

On February 15, we will begin a three-week, three country Africa ministry trip to address some of these needs.The bulk of our time will be spent in Congo, training pastors. We have been invited by the University of the Great Lakes Region to lead back to back week-long, intensive courses on effective spiritual leadership. One will be held in the Kivu regional capital of Goma, a town of 700,000. For the second, we travel an hour away by plane to another city of similar size, Butembo. University Meeting Congo

As we did in Rwanda, we have prepared a 60+ page Student Guide and are currently translating it into French. This resource gives participants a workbook for the course in their own language, summarizing the chief content of Tim's book, The Spirit-Led Leader: Nine Leadership Practices and Soul Principles, with many practical points of application. As is the custom in much of Africa, after the course, the pastors will take the Student Guides throughout the region, where thousands more will learn from them. We never know for sure all the ways that God will use us while we're there, but every visit overflows with rich ministry opportunities. From past experience, in addition to teaching and leading prayer experiences, our time will be filled with counseling, encouraging, mentoring, and preaching.

While in Africa...

In addition to our work in Congo, we will spend three days in Kenya. We have been invited by International Christian Ministries (ICM) to discuss when we could offer the "The Spirit-Led Leader" course and build a prayer labyrinth for their pastors' training program. Jill will also be helping to design a labyrinth for the Eagle Wings Retreat Center outside Nairobi.

In Rwanda, we will meet with key leaders we have worked with in the past and follow up on the Pastors Leadership Conference that we led for 50 pastors in Musanze in November.

Bonjour! Right now, we are in Chartres, France, preparing for our upcoming mission and ministry work in Africa and Hungary. Tim is doing language training while working hard to translate the Student Guide for his "Spirit-Led Leader" courses. Jill is using this time to continue writing on prayer in the Chartres Cathedral, which hosts 1.5 million visitors each year. Combining questions, insights, and rare photographs, Jill is creating an inspirational book to help others to grow spiritually while seeking God in the cathedral.

As Faith, Hope and Love Global Ministries continues to expand its reach in the U.S., Europe, Africa, and Asia, the need for teaching, inspiration, and encouragement for pastors and leaders has become increasingly evident. As we grapple with how to best leverage our efforts, we have begun focusing more on the following initiatives: 1. Recruiting key individuals to coordinate operations in each country we serve, 2. Developing a scholarship program, and 3. Producing more written and web materials.
